Genesis

In 1991, the Islamic Academy of Education, a not-for-profit trust committed to the upliftment of minorities in general and Muslims in particular, was established by entrepreneur Mr. Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi as its Chairman.

Identifying a gap in health professional education, the Trust established the Yenepoya Dental College in 1992, followed by the Yenepoya Institute of Nursing Sciences (1994), Yenepoya Medical College (1999), Yenepoya Nursing College (2002), and Yenepoya Physiotherapy College (2003).

In recognition of its contribution to higher education, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission, granted Deemed-to-be University status under Section 3A of the UGC Act, 1956 in 2008—marking a new chapter in the history of Yenepoya Institutions.

Sponsoring Society

The Islamic Academy of Education, founded in 1991, is the sponsoring society of Yenepoya Deemed to be University. The Trust has consistently focused on excellence in professional education by establishing institutions in dentistry, nursing, medicine, and physiotherapy.

In pursuit of academic excellence, the Trust formed a separate entity in 2007 exclusively for creating a Deemed-to-be University, which was formally recognized in 2008.
